Reiki is a method of healing, and it is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is a form of alternative therapy commonly referred to as energy healing. Reiki originated from Japan and is practiced in the U.S. to this day. It was discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in March 1922. The word Reiki is made of two Japanese from two words - Rei which means "Spiritual Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "Life Force Energy" that flows through all living things. The word "Ki" means the same as Chi in Chinese, Prana in Sanskit and Ti or Ki in Hawaiian, also science calls it bio-field energy.
Reiki is not connected with any particular religion or religious practice. Reiki is an abundant, gentle, spiritually guided life force energy. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
It is used for help in relaxation, helping the body’s natural healing, and mental, spiritual, and emotional wellness. It has helped people with stress, depression, anxiety and more. It can help remove all negative thoughts and energy that you may be having in your mind.
In a Reiki session, the practitioner is looking for to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client. The intention is to create deep relaxation, to help speed healing, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms you may be experiencing. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
Reiki Sessions heals on all of a person: mental, physical, emotional and spiritual levels to restore balance, and improve health. It helps in stress reduction and relaxation. It can also be used to treat burns, headaches, clean out a person’s body before and after surgery, chemotherapy treatment, and help heal any aspect of their past, present, future lives.
It is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and problem and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to reduce side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki is administered through the hands of a Reiki practitioner with the client lying fully clothed on a bed or treatment table or sit in a comfortable chair. The practitioner holds their hands lightly touching or slightly over the body.
The practitioner's hands placed and held on a series of locations around the head and shoulders, the abdomen and on the legs and feet. Tissue is not manipulated. In a Reiki session, the practitioner's intention is to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client. Reiki energy flows from practitioner's hands and into the client's body and energy field.
There may or may not be healing music, depending on service provider. A sessions can last between 30 minutes to 90 minutes and shorter sessions are also possible. The number of sessions may vary, depending on what a client wishes to accomplish. Some clients prefer to have one session while others have a series of sessions to work on a particular issue.
The purpose is to create deep relaxation, to increase body's natural healing processes, reduce pain, and decrease other symptoms you may be experiencing.
People typically leave a Reiki session feeling relaxed and refreshed, But sometimes they may notice feeling more tired in the evening than usual. This is the way of you knowing that your body is healing. Reiki is a great art of healing and should be tried to see how you respond to it.
Distance Reiki treatments are just as effective as in-person treatments. Distance Reiki can be sent to anyone, anywhere and at any time. Healing energy is not bound by the laws of time and space. Reiki energy can be received no matter what you are doing. We are all connected together, as we are all energy matter and part of a larger whole.
Reiki helps to heal any aspect of their past, present and future lives. The Reiki energy connects on our spiritual and energetic levels. Our body is made up of our aura (energy fields), the chakras (energy centers) and the meridians (energy pathways.)
Distant Reiki sessions work because energy is not limited by the laws of time and space and distance. Distance is only a physical barrier, therefore sessions can be done without clients being physically present.
In a Reiki session, the practitioner is looking for to transmit Universal Life Energy to the client. You may feel heat or coolness, a very slight tingling, vibration, numbness, itchiness, and sleepiness or you may not feel anything at all.
However, it is different for all clients, feelings of deep relaxation, peace and calm in your mind or body are usually felt by all. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear, or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.
Reiki helps in mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual levels to restore balance by unlocking your body’s natural healing abilities. It directly influences your central nervous system and allows you to relax. Once you are relaxed, all levels of healing take place which is for your highest good only. Reiki never does any harm.
After receiving Reiki, you tend to feel more relaxed, lighter, happier, energized, less physical pain.
Sometimes, for a shorter period, you may also experience tiredness, sadness, restlessness, anger, body rashes, slight light headache or nausea. These states are part of releasing process that will no longer attempt to hold you back and will soon pass. Take time to rest if you are tired and drink plenty of water.

Some people experience maximum benefits from just one session, while for others might take weeks or months, depending on what do they want to achieve.
Most people feel great after a Reiki session – distance Reiki or in-person Reiki. Allowing at least a week in between each of your Reiki treatments creates space for you to process the treatment. Reiki continues to work through you after the treatment session.
Some health issues can be resolved in two or three sessions (weekly basis), others may take ongoing sessions on a recurring weekly basis.
If a person has suffered from a long-standing or perpetual, chronic disease, one session will not be able to provide maximum benefit. Multiple sessions are necessary. I will recommend weekly sessions until the recipient is feeling well. I like to start with four sessions on weekly basis and then re-evaluate the situation to see if bi-weekly or monthly sessions would be more appropriate going forward. After the healing process has achieved a level that the recipient is feeling strong and they are more relaxed and balanced, then monthly sessions are often effective to maintain well-being.
If no chronic conditions are reported during the first session, then monthly sessions may be needed to maintain well-being.
Receiving regular Reiki treatments is excellent self-care and helps you to maintain physical, mental, and emotional balance.
Timing for sessions could be weekly, every other week or monthly. Some may feel the effects for the rest of the day, and into the next day. Others may feel the effects for a few days. Some may feel a treatment creates a long-term change that can last for a week or longer. After your session, pay attention to how you felt afterwards at least for 24-48 hrs. If you can, continue to pay attention to the messages you receive from your body and try to notice what changes – energetically, emotionally, physically, spiritually might have taken place. This healing process will get to know that when you need to schedule next a Reiki session.
I will guide you after your first session, how often you might need your other sessions. It really depends on you, how often you come for reiki treatments and when you would like another treatment. You are ultimately going to decide what is best for you!
